I don’t look too deep into it. I read the info it says on the Cast and leave it at that. I don’t Dig any deeper then that, so either I don’t notice or care… Sorry if this makes you mad, I didn’t mean too…
I just have to say, wow. I discovered this comic by accident last week, and I ended up marathoning the entire thing from the beginning over the course of three days. Hilarious, adorable, and relatable, every single time. I don’t know that I’ve ever identified with a fictional character so much as I do with Kade, and for that reason, I don’t think that I could’ve gotten started with this comic at a better point in my life.
There’s something this strip brought to mind which I really feel the need to comment on, though. I feel like Nicole is in *desperate* need of identity. When you think of any of the other characters here, it’s easy to come up with an idea of who they are, what they want, and how this affects their interactions with the world. But it feels like Nicole is missing that.
What is the essence of Nicole’s character? Videogames aren’t her passion like they are Kade’s. She isn’t exactly leaning into the “parenting” role that she suggests taking care of Harvey and Ness requires. She acts like the responsible one, and yet it’s Kade who has a job, a car, and a girlfriend. Nicole…reads books, I guess?
What’s especially weird about this is that, given their personalities, you could easily see Kade being the one mooching off of Nicole’s work, but somehow it seems like it’s the other way around. Meanwhile, Harvey is now a famous Youtuber *and* a business owner. And Nicole still doesn’t seem to have anything.
So who is Nicole? The best answer I can give to that question is that she’s Kade’s sister, which doesn’t feel like enough for one of the two main characters of the series. Nicole really needs a career, or a college, or *something* to show us that she has an internal reason to exist. Right now, she’s just…a foil for the other characters. (I don’t want to sound hateful or anything, this character analysis was a labor of love for the series. Just a concerned fan trying to put forward a suggestion.)
Kade has a job or at least had one. He got a tax return during on of the early comics, plus it’s not like they just got infinite money from Uncle Scooby to fund their collection
Tim has said that Kade works as a stay-at-home programmer, using the hacking skills he showed off in the first comic (but haven’t really come up since then). It certainly explains where his endless pile of videogame funds comes from. I do feel like it really ought to be mentioned in a comic at some point, but at least there’s an answer somewhere.
Well, Rick is certainly in a similar position, but I wouldn’t hold him to quite the same standard, since he isn’t one of the main characters. Even then, the way he was introduced showed him to be the dependable friend you can always count on in a pinch. It isn’t exactly an “identity,” but it at least isn’t faced with any weird contradictions the way Nicole as the “responsible one” is contradicted by Kade’s seemingly-better adjustment to the adult world.
Nicole does spend a lot of time playing video games, but also a lot of time reading, perhaps she works from home coding? Then to she might be an author looking to write that great novel so many authors seem to be searching for within themselves. I’m sure all will eventually be revealed to us. I also wonder if at some point Nicole might just accidentally stumble upon a romantic interest, just as Kade did? And who knows, perhaps Nicole and Kade will both work at the store off and on? I could easily see the store expanding into other kinds of gaming as well. Harvey just might have found an outlet for a hidden business talent, who knows?
My cat does the same thing 😛
Aww poor Ness, seems kinda bored without Harvey around xD

Ness is so bored they’ve turned into a cat
A cat would be worse. They use claws while doing this! (Heaven forbid they should slip and fall on something soft, like my tummy.) 😉
That’s exactly what my cat did a few nights ago… Came into the bedroom and tried to leap up on the bed.
She grabbed hold of my bare leg with her claws.
Ouch.
How does ness have enough mass to hurt her tail?
Tails are verry sensitive they are extensions of the spine after all
Three words: Rule Of Funny.
Interesting that she referenced the monkey’s paw. Is that a hint to some sort of demonic activity to happen soon?
More like wishes giving what she wants with the worse of worse side effects.
Nicole has such beautiful feet
oh thats animal love right there
when they walk on you LOL🤣

Wait since when did Kade have a job?
Also you can look at “Cast” section to see Nicoles personality but i do agree that she lacks an identity.

Thank your for explaining.
Well, what does Rick do besides being Kade’s best friend?

Getting in touch with their inner cat. 😛
Ness needs a friend
Maybe take a soul from Harvey’s collection and stuff it in a teddy bear
“Stuff”
*giggles*
And call him Winnie the Pooh-tergeist.
I think Nicole looks rather cute in the fifth panel.
Are you sure you mean panel 5.
She looks like she wants to kill someone to me
Ness looks so innocent while they do this
This makes me think the spirit inside of Ness is the spirit of a cat.

It’s a monkey paw for a monkey busi”ness” XD
Sigh. Just… Sigh
Something the matter?
I have read now the entire comic and still couldnt figure out how Kade or Nicole get money? Do they work?
Kade works from home coding
*”What do you operate with? Monkey’s Paw logic?”
The lack of punctuation and correct sentence structure in your comics make it really hard to understand what your characters are saying sometimes.
“What, do you operate with Monkey’s Paw Logic?” “What do you operate? With Monkey’s Paw Logic?” “What! Do you operate with Monkey’s Paw Logic?”
Yes. I agree, punctuation makes the whole thing…. interpretable. Fluid.
No Ness was going for attention logic. It’s highly effective!
