House Rules
That’s not very realistic. Obviously, a critical miss would result in Ness being launched forward while the bow and arrow remain in place. Haven’t you ever seen a Road Runner cartoon?

And take -4 on all your attacks for wielding an inappropriately sized weapon for you.
Oh, right, you’re going to be a Titan Mauler.
Eh, it’s just Disadvantage. To go with sunlight disadvantage, and shooting into melee disadvantage. All of which are canceled by having a friend next to the target giving advantage.
So wholesome!
This makes me wonder if Ness’ D&D character will al so be speaking in just squeaks.
LOL
Well Alias’s Saurian companion in the Forgotten Realms only ‘spoke’ in scents because humans can’t hear that high (at least not until she got a permanent Tongues spell cast on herself from an artifact and could speak and understand their language).
Always thought bow sizes were relative to race heights. A longbow for a Halfling is not the same length as a longbow for an Elf for example… gotta be at least generally sized for the users ‘n all that.
But that would also mean they should have different range and/or strength requisition to shoot said range.and that would start to give DM even more of a headache.
they used to do exactly that in 3 & 3.5. with a table in the srd showing how a weapons damage scaled up and down with size.
With longbows, they are made to be the size of the user. So a ten year old human kids longbow is much smaller than one made for an adult human. It’s going to be the same in the fantasy world, so a kobold longbow would look tiny next to one used by a human, and a human longbow would be considerably smaller than that used by a centaur. It’s all based on height and strength. So holding it sideways won’t make any difference at all.
Source: I shoot with a longbow.
An adult longbow would also shoot alot further then a ten year old with a longbow his size. so a kobold “longbow” would probably have the reach of a shortbow, and probably the size.
Yep.
Should have gone with a crossbow.
It appears Nicole doesn’t understand longbows, and is making “house rules”. Personally I’d love to know the science around how an arrow would end up in Ness’ skull, but I expect Ness has no idea how to shoot a bow at all, and Nicole is trying to dissuade her
victimplayer with something that can help her limit the unfairness without ruining the enthusiasm.Ness is adorable
Already Harvey , and now Nessie …. I want to play this RPG with all them XD
NESS KOBOLD
LET’S GO, KOBOLD GANG REPRESENT
no idea what’s gangster aim lol
Generally speaking, “spray and pray”.
Often it’s an insistance to hold the gun (or in this case bow) sideways and combined with spray-and-pray shooting methods.
In this case, Nicole apparently doesn’t know that there are different sizes and ranges for longbows depending on size and strength of the bow user, and the fact that tilting the bow sideways will have zero effect on whether you can pull the bow at all. Entertaining, though, and that’s all that matters.
I personally would have chosen a crossbow.
