IMHO: As a commentor, I find Disqus a pain in the rear to use. (I’m also running on an ancient Windows XP machine though.) What do you think of intensedebate instead?
What sort of issues are you having, if you don’t mind my asking? I’m curious because I too am running XP, though I upgraded half my hardware to the latest I could find with XP drivers available around a year and some ago, but I’ve not had any big issue with Disqus (yet?).
Windows XP is no longer being maintained with security patches by Microsoft. A Windows XP install that’s connected to the Internet is consequently *much* more vulnerable to becoming compromised by malware. If at /all/ possible, either migrate to a more modern OS (if you want to stick with Windows, Windows 7 is a very good option) or use a different computer with a more modern OS for Internet related tasks while keeping the Windows XP computer physically disconnected (i.e., Ethernet cord and wireless card removed) from the Internet.

Many folks take time to respond, sometimes several days if they are already swamped. Asking like this kinda looks bad for you to be honest, best to simply wait, and if nothing comes, so be it.

It’s been so long since I have bothered to try Disqus that I am no longer sure what the problem was! 🙂 I don’t even remember what comic I tried it on. I’m pretty sure Kevin&Kell uses it though, so I’ll try to find my pw and try it again. After I get home from work. 🙂

It’s the WordPress automated system. I don’t really have any control over it. That’s one of the reasons I want to migrate to a different system.
I recommend Disqus. While it requires a separate registration, it doesn’t do stuff like this.

I second the Disqus recommendation — it’s solid for me (fairly recent mac).
Disqus sucks much worse. It will IP block you if you have the wrong system setup.

I tend -not- to block ads, unless they are obnoxious, because many(most?) comics get a lot of their revenue from ad hosting.
