I always get weirdly melancholy when I play older games and they have features for obsolete hardware or services. Especially when said features have tutorials in the game, it’s like visiting a post-apocalyptic world where decaying machines still carry out the orders from their long-dead masters.
I have no idea why i didn’t ask when the last comic was up because i didn’t doubt it, but now I’m really curious. You actually got to the kill-screen Tim? ‘Cause if you did, that’s some serious skillzz you got there!
I remember in one of the first comics after Kade met Riley he wanted to help out in the shop before it was open, and he said he couldn’t fit a game cartridge in his collar as “proof” that he wouldn’t steal anything.

Now see, the VMU you need a different method of carrying, not only because it wouldn’t fit in that collar, but also because then you can play all the cool mini games on it.
Also, don’t joke about deleting a VMU, that’s something you don’t do, losing saved games is no joke.
Also, memory cards are the best form of saved games there is. When it comes to older cartridge based systems, you needed to carry your game to your friend’s house in order to have your save, even if they had the game. In modern times, you either have to mess with copying things to some online server or a USB, and that can be quite troublesome and more hassle than it’s worth. With a memory card, you just take it to your friend’s house and pop it in their console, and then you’re playing with your saves.
I would take it Riley as Captain and Kade as the engineer with the ship going wherever it will go. At some point Riley will get exasperated and pop the question and Kade wil be “I thought we already were?” Then continue on with whatever game he was playing at the time.
I am so glad someone finally noticed this!! Kade is actually a shortened form of his full name. I’m not allowed to announce his full name here yet, but when I pitched the name to Tim he was SO excited that the nickname would be like “ar-KADE”. It was an instant winner. I wonder if anyone will ever guess where the name Nicole came from hmm… π
Nope, it’s a good guess but our first dog whom Nicole is based on was actually named Mandy. The name Nicole came from one of Tim’s favorite 90’s cartoons. Hint, it featured a blue guy who loves chili dogs π
Solution? Armbands! Just like the people carrying around their pawPhonesβ’.
Always be ready to any eventuality . Isn’t it , Kade XD
Now , i’m asking to myself what there is else in his collar ? ^_^”
I bet there is sort of pockets for memory cards ^_^”
I bet there’s a communicator in there, like Brains collar from the original Inspector Gadget series.
That’s a really cool arcade feature!
Riley looks so darn cute in the 5th panel. You can tell she’s getting a lot more comfortable with Kade and knows him a lot better, now.
Btw, there should be an “e” at the end of the word “breathe”
yer right
I just noticed that hehe
Riley’s just egging Kade on. She wants to see him black out. π (Wonder if Nicole put her up to it..?)
And get the VMU be deleted ? 0_o
Finally it has been explained!
but there’s got to be other reasons right?

Same . Somewhere , it’s lightly gloomy

while i wear a collar both in most of my characters and in the physical world. i am only slightly jealous of that collar. collar pockets.
He is the McGyver for Video games – always prepared for everything and only armed his trusty collar XD

It was this one: http://www.savestatecomic.com/2016/03/go-away-please/
Obviously the collar’s already full. π

(psst… breath is the noun, breathe is the verb.)

Come on Kade the answer is obvious! A utility belt! All the pockets you will ever need for every memory card there is plus some batarangs!
*Looks at judy Hopps to swipe her belt* ^_^”
Who is the character on Kade’s collar ?
That’s how Pac-man’s original art on the arcade machines.
Thanks. He looks like he’s saying: “Oh you…”
Okay, this ship has pretty much sailed at this point. They’re perfect for each other.
So cute as a couple
I bet Riley would love it ; but Kade is “lost” in his geek world ………
I would take it Riley as Captain and Kade as the engineer with the ship going wherever it will go. At some point Riley will get exasperated and pop the question and Kade wil be “I thought we already were?” Then continue on with whatever game he was playing at the time.
Riley is Kade’s “wi-fu”? π
Of course!

Hey, love your comic. No one had pointed it out, that I noticed, so I decided to. Breath is a noun. Br – eh – th. Breathe is the verb. Br – ee – th.
I have always wonderd this. Does Riley have any siblings. Also, does Rick have any siblings.
Looked to me at first like Kade was trying to show off his ‘new’ collar to us in panel 3.
Kade and Riley are actually bonding! π
So, Kade’s collar is a Collar of Holding. Very rare. I wonder if Nicole’s collar has the same properties.
Nicole’s collar is also a Collar of Holding, yes. She keeps a small wallet and cell phone in hers, but not much else.
I just realized that kades name is like arcade ….he is Ar-kade the living embodiment of all games!

Nicole came from the actual dogs name.
Nope, it’s a good guess but our first dog whom Nicole is based on was actually named Mandy. The name Nicole came from one of Tim’s favorite 90’s cartoons. Hint, it featured a blue guy who loves chili dogs π
The show is sonic the hedgehog. I have seen the show and now that I think of it, Nicole looks like that character in dog form.
